Student Teaching Internship Watchung Hills
Regional High School Fall
2000
Taught three classes of Honors Physics.
Designed various forms of student assessment including concept tests,
pre-tests, post-tests, and quizzes.
Contributed to the development of lesson plans for the following
concepts: (1) Vector and Scalar Quantities, (2) Statics (Forces & Torque),
and (3) One Dimensional Kinematics.
Solely designed lesson plan for Statics. Incorporated the use of inquiry-based learning and Socratic-style
questioning. Set up research project
(involving all three classes) that involved researching physics concepts
learned in class, researching their real-world applications, and locating
appropriate website references.
Produced a website, in conjunction with students that makes available
the information gathered and learned (Site URL: http://knowledgethruscience.tripod.com. See “Physics” and “About the
WebMaster”.). Incorporated the use of
technology in the classroom, via the following: (1) Use of the Television as an
active form of gathering data for Kinematics experiments, (2) Use of PC for
analyzation of data obtained from experiments for generating mathematical
relationships and hence equations, (3) Use of video camera for gathering data
for Kinematics experiments, (4) Use of PC for website editing and design. Performed routine teacher-related activities
including: attendance, classroom management, grading, being available for extra
help sessions.
Summer Astrophysics Internship New Brunswick, NJ Summer
1999
Worked and interacted with high school students of various grades. Observed how students learn. Incorporated the use of real Astrophysics
research with conceptual theory taught in class. Saw how inquiry-based learning positively affects student
learning.
Greenhouse Effect New Brunswick Spring 2001
Teaching course in conjunction with University Professor Sunil Somalwar
(Physics Dept.). Analyze the
environmental concerns facing the 21st Century including: (1)
Greenhouse Effect, (2) Ozone Depletion, World Climate changes, Energy use (or
OVER-use) in industrial societies such as the U.S., (3) the promises and problems
of “Alternative” energy solutions, and (4) California energy crisis.
Extended Physics Teaching Assistant & Lab Instructor Fall 2000
Rutgers University-Physics Dept. New
Brunswick, NJ
Taught/Teaching one section each semester (4 Cumulative) of a year-long
physics lecture and lab course, primarily based for students in scientific
curricula excluding physics and engineering majors. Implemented/ing inquiry-based learning techniques and
Socratic-style questioning and discussion.
Extended Analytical Physics Teaching Assistant Fall 1999-Spring 2000
Rutgers University-Physics Dept. New Brunswick, NJ
Taught two sections each semester (4 Cumulative) of a year-long advanced physics course, for engineers, designed for at-risk engineering students implementing inquiry-based learning techniques and Socratic-style questioning and discussion.
Rutgers University-Chemistry Dept. New Brunswick, NJ
Taught and reviewed (4 Cumulative) all topics taught in lecture and all homework problems. Designed worksheets for students to work on at home, as well as in groups during class. Provided sample questions for final exams. Held review sessions and extended office hours to assist students who desired to excel in class. Administered and graded quizzes and exams.
Rutgers University-Chemistry Dept. New Brunswick, NJ
Taught two sections each semester (8 Cumulative) including experiments that covered from Sn1/2 chemical reactions to Thin Layer Chromatography. Familiarized students with separating immicible liquid layers via a separatory funnel, pH analysis, and set-up of equipment such as distillation apparatus and reflux. Held review sessions for course exams. Written many student recommendations for Medical School and Dental School.

Video Editing for Professor Eugenia Etkina Spring 2001
Editing digital and analog physics video activities and demonstrations
for Rutgers University Education Science Advisor Eugenia Etkina for purposes of
making them available for all to see on world wide web. Using Macintosh iMovie for video
editing.
Princeton Review MCAT instructor Spring
2001
Teaching Physical Science section (Physics and Chemistry) of Medical
College Admissions Test.
Private Tutor Fall
2000
Privately tutored engineering student taking introductory engineering
course offered at New York University.
Discussed the following topics: Vectors and Scalars, Kinematics,
Statics, Dynamics (Linear and Circular), Momentum (both One and Two
Dimensional), Momentum Conservation, Work and Energy Conservation.
Organic Chemistry Research Spring 2000-Summer 2000
Rutgers University-Chemistry Dept. New Brunswick, NJ
Worked on synthesizing and testing arenediazonium ions, with long-chain tails (C16H33) and short chain tails (C2H5). Use of scientific instruments include: HPLC and UV. Currently working/testing on arenediazonium ion in phosphate buffer solution at pH 7. The former’s potential use will serve to simplify Surfactant Chemistry research and the latter may provide a more universal ‘mechanism’ for a particular organic chemical reaction by a fellow colleague working in India. Supervisor: Dr. Laurence Romsted.
Online Physics Tutorial Design Spring 2000-Summer 2000
Rutgers University-Graduate School of Education New Brunswick, NJ
Designed Physics tutorial for Elementary school teachers in New Brunswick area to enhance their knowledge of Physics. Incorporated excellent Websites to aid in understand of the concepts, including ‘static’ pages as well as animated Java applets.
Curriculum Design Fall 1998
Rutgers University-Graduate School of Education New Brunswick, NJ
Designed physics curriculum for K-5th grade students, in conjunction with Eugenia Etkina, for American Golf & Entertainment.
Plant Pathology/Virology Research Summer-Fall 1998
Rutgers University-Plant Pathology Dept./Rutgers Blueberry/Cranberry Research Center New Brunswick, NJ
Researched a strain of plant virus known as ‘blueberry red ring spot virus’. Isolated and sequenced entire DNA strand.
Learning Resource Center Tutor Fall 1997-Spring 1999
Rutgers University-LRC New Brunswick, NJ
Nationally certified in the following subjects: General Physics, General Chemistry, General Organic Chemistry.
